The company claims a sense of altruism drives the initiative and there is no business involved here. The India Water Body will conduct nation-wide studies to assess the demand-supply gap for water in India. It is also looking to engage a systematic long-term approach to drive water security for the nation through the public-private partnership model including the government and the NGOs.

"It is estimated that by 2030, the supply of water in India would be half of the demand for it. This is a crisis that has the potential to derail the economic and social development of the country and impact the health and livelihood of millions of people across the country. The initiative is aimed at driving water security," said Nitin Paranjpe, CEO & managing director, Hindustan Unilever.
