Infosys expands presence into Latin America

The software firm says it has incorporated its first Latin American subsidiary and opens a development centre and office to cater to the Mexican region.

Software firm Infosys Technologies on Wednesday said the company has incorporated its first Latin American subsidiary and opened a development centre and office to cater to the Mexican region.

The Latin American subsidiary, Infosys Technologies S De RL De CV, would provide business consulting and information technology services for clients in all industries including banking, financial services and retail.

"The facility would help us establish our services in the Central time zone which allows us to provide better support to our clients located across multiple geographies," Infosys Technologies chief executive officer S Gopalakrishnan said in a filing to BSE.

The development centre would provide key offerings in business process outsourcing, infrastructure management, the company said.

Mexico was chosen because of the broad language skills available in the region, its proximity to Canada, the US and Europe. Besides Latin America is a market and one where many of Infosys clients have operations already.

Mohit Joshi has been appointed as the head of the new subsidiary. Joshi, formerly a group engagement manager with Infosys banking and capital markets organisation has more than 12 years of client and leadership experience.

The monterrey facility provides the company with the dedicated resources to service clients in North America, Latin America and Europe.

Our clients are exploring opportunities to mitigate risk while expanding operations into the burgeoning market, Gopalakrishnan added.
