“Ab Infy mein sab kuch accha hoga,” (Now, everything will be alright at Infosys) said the 31- year old Sourabh Kumar (name changed on request) on hearing that NR Narayana Murthy will take over as the executive chairman. The IIT-educated software engineer was thinking of quitting Infosys for a while now, and this news has changed his mind.

“Though I never had the chance to work under his leadership I have heard a lot about him from my senior managers. It will be a privilege to have him as our leader once more,” said Kumar.

His thoughts find an echo among other employees of the IT bellwether. E-mails are being exchanged and social networking sites are buzzing with happy posts. “After a long time we feel that good times will indeed return to the company,” said a technical architect with Infosys.

Infy has been under pressure for high attrition rates, which has hovered around 15-16%. Murthy had made Infosys an enjoyable, prestigious place to work in. But recent HR policies queered the pitch. One such policy required employees to stay back at the campus for nine hours.
