The information technology (IT) sector is likely to create around 170,000 jobs in 2014-15, signalling an uptick in hiring, with IT exports in 2014-15 projected to grow faster than 2013-14.

Hiring in the IT sector fell from 230,000 in 2011-12 to 188,000 in 2012-13 and further to 160,000 in 2013-14. In the next fiscal year, a robust recovery in key markets and the emergence of new technologies are signalling a strong rebound.
Though the National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) has not given a clear projection on employment generation for the next fiscal year, key industry leaders say the sector will create 6-7% more jobs on the back of Nasscom’s projections of a 13-15% increase in software services exports and a 10% growth in domestic business.
“IT may create 170,000 jobs in 2014-15,” Ganesh Natarajan, CEO of Zensar Technologies and former Nasscom chairman told HT. The reference is to both IT and IT-enabled services such as call centres.
“The industry will continue to hire talent across multiple technology domains,” said CP Gurnani, CEO and managing director, Tech Mahindra.

Nasscom on Tuesday said exports will grow up to 15% to $118 billion in in 2014-15.
“As long as the industry sees growth there will be increase in jobs. Hiring will be more next year,” said Arvind Thakur, CEO of NIIT Technologies.
