Japanese shares gained 0.27 per cent in morning trade on Friday on a weaker yen but investors were cautious ahead of the release of key monthly US jobs data later in the day.

The benchmark Nikkei-225 index rose 27.33 points to 10,005 by the lunch break. The broader Topix index of all first-section shares added 1.07 points or 0.12 per cent to 889.11.
