The cable television distribution war in Tamil Nadu is taking its toll on the Maran family-controlled Sun TV. In the last ten weeks, the network's viewership has seen a huge dip.

The revival of Arasu Cable with the blessings of chief minister CM Jayalalithaa that carries only free-to-air channels is further expected to send down the channel share.Across 10 weeks, the ratings have dipped around 22-25% while Sun TV's GEC channel share declined 20% from 72%, while Sun News' channel share has seen 44% dip. The Sun Music channel share has seen a 42% dip for the same period.

"The pattern of connectivity and distribution has changed in Tamil Nadu since the new government has taken over. Some of the channels that seemed to be affected are those that belong to the Sun network and the Star network," said Nandini Dias, COO, Lodestar UM.
