"I stoutly deny this accusation," Chidambaram told BJP members Ravi Shankar Prasad during the Question Hour in Rajya Sabha.

He said even during 2000-01 (when NDA was in power) the inflation was over six per cent.

The Minister said the rise in inflation was due to increase in international crude oil price which had subsequently come down.

Alleging disconnect between Finance, Agriculture and Commerce Ministries, Prasad said the price rise was also due to "mismanagement" of the whole situation by the government.
