"This meet is now expected to happen on the 7th June," a senior coal ministry official told HT. The official did not divulge reasons for the postponement.

Apart from the coal minister, finance minister and power ministers are also expected to attend this meeting that would delve into issues to augment coal production in India in wake of flat coal production growth over the last two years. Coal shortage impacts the performance of thermal power plants which in turn affects power production in the country.

"Unless coal supply issues are urgently addressed, this could impact the power supply situation in the country during peak summer months," said Anil Sardana, chairman CII national committee on power in a statement.
