With a view to improving the power distribution system and reduce aggregated technical and commercial loss (AT & C), the Orissa government has launched a project with an investment of Rs 2,400 crore between 2010-11 and 2013-14.
The state government will provide Rs 1,200 crore out of the total investment for the capital expenditure programme (CAPEX). The four distribution companies will generate the other half.
"The investment is aimed to develop commensurate technologically advanced distribution infrastructure to effect reliable and stable power supply in the state with minimum loss in the distribution system," said Naveen Patnaik, Orissa chief minister.
Orissa has signed an MoU 27 with power companies to set up independent power plants to boost the power generation in the state from the present capacity of 4,000 megawatt (mw) to 40,000 mw.
