Sensex gains 50 points in early trade

The 30-share index, Sensex, shoots up by another 49.17 points at 14,015.03 in the first five minutes of trading.

Continuing with its upward march, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex on Tuesday gathered nearly 50 points to quote above the 14,000 level in early trade with funds buying in heavy-weight stocks.

The 30-share index (Sensex), which had gained 169.70 points on Monday, shot up by another 49.17 points at 14,015.03 in the first five minutes of trading on the back of rise in banking, oil and auto sector stocks.

Similarly, on the wide-based National Stock Exchange, Nifty was up by 10.65 points at 4,143.95.

Major gainers, which gave push to the rising Sensex were Reliance Industries, State Bank of India, ONGC, Maruti Udyog, Tata Steel, Hindustan Lever and ITC Ltd.

However, a few stocks such as Satyam Computers, ACC and Reliance Industries met with profit-taking and were placed lower.
