Fresh buying in select counters, mainly realty, consumer durables, capital goods and power, helped the BSE benchmark Sensex recover from early losses to trade nearly 21 points higher vis-a-vis its previous close in early trade on Monday.

The 30-share Bombay Stock Exchange index resumed higher at 16,155.99 and hovered in a range between 16,237.41 and 16,057.53 before quoting at 16,162.57 at 1015 hours, translating into a net gain of 20.90 points, or 0.13%, vis-a-vis last weekend's close.
However, the NSE's 50-share Nifty was down by 17.45 points, or 0.36%, at 4,828.20 at 1015 hours.
The major gainers from the Sensex pack were Jaiprakash Associates (3.19%), Jindal Steel (2.05%), BHEL (1.70%), Bharti airtel (1.15%) and HDFC (0.85%).
Major Asian stock markets lost at least 1% last week as investors fretted about global growth prospects and awaited further developments in the euro-zone debt crisis.
