Sensex rises 282 pts to 6-week high

The BSE benchmark Sensex today rose 282 points, or 1.4%, to 19,959 to close at a fresh six-week high led by gains in IT sector stocks as Infosys surged on smart first-quarter results.

The BSE benchmark Sensex on Friday rose 282 points, or 1.4%, to 19,959 to close at a fresh six-week high led by gains in IT sector stocks as Infosys surged on smart first-quarter results.


The NSE Nifty gained 74 points, or 1.3%, to close at 6,009.

“The upswing extended only to large-cap counters, mid-cap and small-cap stocks did not participate in the rally,” said Amar Ambani, research head, IIFL.

Meanwhile, the rupee also rose by 11 paise to close at a two-week high of 59.56 against the dollar on fag-end sales by exporters.
