Nokia, which has diversified from its traditional Symbian platform to Windows under its Microsoft ownership and Google-based Android OS, is now ready to do what premium brands rarely do: it is set to push price points lower.
The company is likely to offer its smartphones on Windows 8.1 platform — Nokia Lumia 520, 620 and 720 series phones - for as low as sub-Rs 7,000.

"Going forward, Lumia series will be available for lower price bands than now. We will push the price boundaries on Windows device of Lumia even lower," P Balaji, MD, Nokia India, told HT.
"This segment is stepping stone for Lumia… the differentiators of Microsoft that we are packaging on top of Android open source project in X family phones will aid consumers in their transition to a pure Microsoft device in the future," he added.
Nokia India is currently focusing on the windows-based smartphone category of Rs 8,000-Rs 12,000. "Most of our entry-level feature phones are now like smartphones. Going ahead, we will have smartphone capabilities in feature phones," said Balaji.
