Technical education and industries minister Anil Joshi said the state government had taken this decision to provide equal opportunities to cancer and AIDS patients to study. He said such students would get 1% reservation during admissions in all engineering colleges, polytechnics and industrial training institutes (ITIs).

To get the benefit of reservation, candidates should produce cancer and AIDS-related medical documents at the time of admission.

Joshi said any case of discrimination with patients of these diseases in any institution would not be tolerated.
