100 docs attend CME on fertility enhancement

Nearly 100 National Integrated Medical Association (NIMA) doctors attended a continuing medical education (CME) on 'Fertility Enhancing Procedures' at Hotel Park Grand, Sector 43, on Monday. The session was conducted in association with Max Super Speciality Hospital (MSSH), SAS Nagar.

Apprising those present of the most recent advancements in infertility treatment, Dr Seema Wadhwa, a senior consultant of gynaecology and an advanced laparoscopy specialist at MSSH, said many medical treatments such as removal of scar tissue from inside the uterus or removal f the uterine septum could now be done in a day care procedure.

Speaking about factors that cause infertility in women, she said that congenital or acquired defects may be associated with primary infertility, pregnancy wastage or premature delivery.

"Alteration in the frequency and duration of menstrual cycle and failure to ovulate or form an egg was the most common infertility problem, as had been seen in PCOS patients. Abnormalities or damage to the fallopian tube might be congenital or acquired," she said.
