The Punjab health department has so far collected 17,917 samples of sweets, milk and other milk products to check food adulteration during the ongoing festive season.

The samples had been collected from over 2,000 spots, which included sweet shops and dairy units and godowns, while a strict vigil was being kept at railway stations and to check transportation of spurious milk and other food items, a spokesman here said.
Since April, the health officials have so far seized adulterated food items worth Rs 1 crore, as 694 samples had failed the test, he said.
