Police booked Sandeep Kumar alias Sunny, 25, along with head constable Naresh Kumar of the Punjab police who brought Sandeep from Ropar for appearance before the judicial magistrate Shilpi in connection to an assault on additional district attorney (ADA) in February 2014. Sandeep Kumar, a resident of Sector 38, and accused in number of cases including attempt to murder and robbery in Punjab, escaped when head constable Naresh was busy completing formalities after Sandeep’s appearance in the court. The incident took place after the court hearing while Naresh was accompanying the accused to Sector-43 Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT). However, as soon as they stepped out of the court complex, Sandeep fled by dodging the head constable.

Police claimed that an associate of Kumar was already present outside the court complex in a car, in which the accused escaped.

Sub-inspector (SI) Sher Singh, in-charge of ISBT-43 police station said a case against Kumar and Naresh had been registered. However, Naresh was later released on bail.

WIFE INFORMED POLICE

As per police, Sandeep’s wife Amandeep Kaur had come to meet him in the court. The couple had strained relations for the past seven years and Amandeep had come to visit him on insistence of her mother-in-law. Amandeep called and informed police when Sandeep escaped while taking away her mobile phone.
