Bajwa took the action hours after protests by a group of disgruntled Congressmen against him here on Wednesday. They were carrying placards with the message, ‘Bajwa, go back’ and ‘Bajwa hatao, Punjab bachao’.

Bajwa appointed four new block presidents -- Rajiv Gagat as the block president of Ludhiana West-1, Kulbir Singh Neeta of Ludhiana West-2, Yadwinder Singh Raju of Atam Nagar-1 and Rajinder Singh Bajwa of Atam Nagar-2.

Bajwa said they had been appointed as block presidents with immediate effect. Bajwa handed over the appointment letters to them. They, in turn, assured Bajwa that they would work to strengthen the party and would adhere to the party discipline.

Bajwa was in Ludhiana for a meeting of the District Congress Committee president and Block Congress Committee president of Malwa-1 zone, district in-charge and the block observer.

Harish Chaudhary, secretary, AICC, and in-charge, Punjab, presided over the meeting and gave details of the modalities of conducting the monthly Block Congress Committee and DCC meetings.
