A 40-year-old maid committed suicide by hanging herself at the residence of her employer in Sector 9, Chandigarh, on Sunday.

The victim, Usha Sethi, was found hanging from a tree on the compound of the house by the watchman in the morning. The police were informed and the body was lowered after cutting the rope with which she had hanged herself. The police rushed the victim to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16 where she was declared brought dead by the doctors.

No suicide note was recovered from the spot. According to police, the victim was under stress due to her deteriorating health condition. The police have ruled out foul play. The body has been kept in the hospital mortuary and will be handed over to the family after postmortem. The police have started inquest proceedings under section 174 of the CrPC in this connection. The victim is survived by two sons, while her husband had expired a few years ago.
