The deceased identified as Gurdyal Singh was a resident of Kharar. In his suicide note, he stated that the father-son duo had forcibly occupied his land which led him to suffer financial losses. He also instructed his friends to report the matter to the police and to reveal all details to the media.

The gun used in the act was licensed to the deceased.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. His family said that he had been depressed because of work-related problems. They added he had informed them that his land had been forcibly occupied by people who threatened to kill his family if he told anyone about it.

Balwinder Singh, son of the deceased, said, “When I reached the spot, my father was lying in a pool of blood and he had his revolver in his right hand.”

The body had been sent for postmortem, police added.

Station house officer (SHO) of Sadar police station, Kharar, said a case had been registered against the accused, who are absconding, under Sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Raids are being conducted to arrest the accused, he added.
