A March-7 notification from medical education and research principal secretary Vini Mahajan has stated that the fee hike will be implemented from the coming session. To take MBBS seats out of the government quota (based on merit), students will have to pay Rs 2.2 lakh for the first year instead of Rs 2 lakh now. The annual fee will keep on increase by 10% every year.

Earlier, the fee was a uniform Rs 2 lakh for all five years of

the MBBS and BDS courses. In the MBBS fifth year, the students will pay Rs 3.22 lakh each. For the management-quota students, the fee hike is 10%. They will shell out Rs 6.6 lakh a year instead of Rs 6 lakh they do now. In the non-resident Indian (NRI) quota, the new fee is $1.10 lakh (more than Rs 70 lakh), up from Rs 60 lakh a year.

The BDS course fee is up from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 1.65 lakh, which will reach Rs 2.19 lakh by the fourth year. The NRI-seat fee will be $44,000 (about `26 lakh) now. Last year, the fee had gone up 33%.
