The drug contraband was seized from the truck in which the two accused - Patiala resident Gurvinder Singh, the owner of the truck, and Sangrur resident Gurmej Singh, the driver — were travelling. Both were produced before a court on Friday and remanded in three-day police custody.

SAS Nagar senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed this. "Before buying a truck four years ago, Gurvinder Singh used to work as a driver. He has studied till Class 8."

Gurmej Singh worked as a cleaner and began driving last seven years ago, the SSP said. Bhullar.

"The duo used to transport soaps and mosquito repellents from factories in SAS Nagar and Zirakpur to Rajasthan." On their way back, they used to smuggle poppy husk, which they sold to truck drivers in the district," the SSP said.

Police claimed that the accused had recovered a gunny bag containing packets of puppy husk from the cabin in the truck. Each packet had about 1 to 2 kgs of poppy husk. The police have impounded the truck and registered a case under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act against the two at Kharar police station.
