Last year, NSUI candidate Chandan Rana had secured 3,599 votes but this year its candidate Divyanshu Budhiraja could secure only 2,249 votes. Even in the absence of powerful Student Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU), the NSUI’s margin was thin.

On almost all the seats, SOI has given a tough time to NSUI and has remained close second on the posts of president and vice-president despite the fact that SOI was re-launched in February this year only.
