The separatists leaders were put under house arrest while several were taken into custody to maintain peace following call for demonstrations after Friday prayers by different organisations in protest against anti-Islam movie made in the US.

A spokesperson for the breakaway HC Aiyaz Akbar said Geelani remained under house arrest.

He said a large number of security forces remained deployed outside his Hyderpora residence.

However, all other separatists leaders who have been put under house arrest were released.
