Putting the Bharatiya Janata Party stand in a bold and clear manner, party’s national president Amit Shah at the ‘Vijay Sankalp Rally’ here on Thursday admitted that though they still have a tie-up with the Haryana Janhit Congress in the state, the alliance is acceptable only if the latter agrees to the Lok Sabha seat-sharing formula.
Shah’s statement implies that the BJP is only willing to give Kuldeep Bishnoi’s Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) just 18 out of the 90 assembly seats to contest as per the Lok Sabha seat-sharing formula.
While this formula was devised by the two allies only for the Lok Sabha elections, the saffron party’s superlative performance — where it won seven out of eight Lok Sabha seats it contested in Haryana — has changed the dynamics of the seat sharing. Bishnoi’s HJC contested on two seats — Hisar and Sirsa in the Lok Sabha (each having nine assembly segments) and lost both.
Speaking on the HJC, its ally for three years, the BJP leader said though they were in the process to seal the deal on the alliance, the party was prepared to go it alone and was in a position to form government on its own if talks fail. He said in any case the party would respect public sentiments and honour the opinion of state leaders of fight the assembly elections on its own.
HJC chief Kuldeep Bishnoi had asked the BJP to stick to the original condition of 50% seats, which comes to 45 assembly seats out of total 90. Bishnoi has announced to field his party candidates on all the 90 assembly segments if the alliance snaps.
