A day after Punjab government accepted the resignation of singer-turned-actor turned-politician Harbhajan Mann from the post of chairman of the SAS Nagar district planning committee, state chief minister Parkash Badal cleared the name of Amanjot Kaur Ramoowalia, daughter of Balwant Ramoowalia on Friday. She is a general secretary of the woman wing of the SAD.
Mann, who is married to a niece of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, was appointed to the chair in May 2012, soon after the SAD-BJP came to power and the incumbent panel chairman NK Sharma became an Akali MLA. But Mann remained busy with albums and movies, which even led to a grant of Rs 28 lakh getting lapsed and no further grants thus being issued.
A Right to Information (RTI) plea by former councillor Kuljeet Singh Bedi revealed that Mann had not even visited office since October 2012, while the committee had last met on July 24, 2012. Mann had filed his resignation on December 18.
