Local police have swung into action after the recent UBER Cab rape case incident in Delhi. All station house officers (SHO) and assistant commissioners of police (ACP) have been asked to verify the background of cab service providers and drivers in Panchkula district on Thursday.
DCP Panchkula Hamid Akhtar has also asked for a report in this regard. Soon after the orders, the local police set up six check points in the city on Thursday.
ACP Jagtar Singh said, “We have set up six checkposts at various points and are checking all such cabs and taxis passing by. Various taxis have been challaned for not possessing valid documents. They are also directed to get their verification conducted by the police stations concerned.”
TWO taxi firms given a week to register
The UT state transport authority issued notices on Thursday to two app based taxi operators – Taxi for Sure and Meru, suspending their operations in the city with immediate effect.
The administration has already banned the multinational rideshare and taxi company, Uber, in the city following a home affairs ministry directive.
The app-based taxi operators have been told they can operate in the city only after they register with the UT state transport authority and have been given seven days to do so. The STA continued its drive against unauthorised taxi operators in the city, impounding two taxis being run by Uber and Meru.
