Thanks to the casual approach of the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA), wrong information pertaining to the fee submission centre in the application form for international driving permit has been causing great inconvenience to the city residents.
It has been wrongly mentioned in the application form issued by the RLA that an applicant needs to submit a fee of `500 in the treasury branch of State Bank of India, Sector 17, before submitting application form for international driving licence in the Registering and Licensing Authority office, Sector 17. However, the fee is actually being accepted at the cash counter of RLA’s office in Sector 17 only.
Every month a large number of city residents apply for international driving licence that allows them to drive a vehicle in foreign land.
The RLA’s international driving licence permit is valid for a maximum period of one year and can be used in over 150 countries. But those who apply for this special permit end up wasting time in the SBI office before approaching the Registering and Licensing Authority office. If officials at the RLA are to be believed, this glaring mistake is continuing for quite some time now.
An applicant, Manjot Singh from Sector 7, said it is surprising that the application forms pertaining to international driving licence are put up for sale without verifying the facts.

{{/usCountry}}“The department should immediately rectify the error by printing new application forms to save the residents from harassment they are made to face every day,” he added.
“How can the RLA continue to sit over such a mistake? It shows how much they care for the public convenience,” said Sector 20 resident Jaspal Singh.
When contacted, registering and licensing officer Parveen Kumar said he had taken note of the mistake and it would be rectified soon.
