Senior Akali leader and former Punjab minister Sucha Singh Langah, while camping at Nada Sahib gurdwara here in Haryana, brought former PM Manmohan Singh into the debate over the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) on Thursday.
Adding to a point being made by the SAD, he told the media that during the struggle for the SGPC in 1925, the family of Manmohan Singh supported it and his family members were even jailed by the then British government. “We are defending the 1925 pact when Sikhs of the country fought for their rights, and the SGPC was constituted,” he said.
When asked about SGPC Task Force members present at Nada Sahib, reportedly to stall takeover by HSGMC, Langah said there was “no such force present”. But, he said, “We all are supporters of Sikh religion and are collectively guarding the shrine. If the water goes beyond our heads, the youth wing will take over from us, and the rest will be the history.” He threatened that the Congres, whose government in Haryana has formed the HSGMC, would face “dire consequence for disobeying the Akal Takht”.
He also claimed that even after Independence, Mahatma Gandhi and then PM Jawaharlal Nehru and other prominent Sikh leaders had arrived on conclusion that the “gurdwaras of the world would be governed by SGPC and would obey the orders issued from Akal Takht, Amritsar”.

{{/usCountry}}“The final course of action would be decided at a meeting at Amritsar led by Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal,” said Langah, who is also an SGPC member. He was accompanied by Ujagar Singh Wadali and Amrik Singh Mohali.
