People seeking hair transplant literally throng the cosmetic surgery clinic of the PGIMER, which takes place in the New OPD Block on every Thursday.

According to head of the department of plastic surgery Dr Ramesh Kumar Sharma, the clinic was started around two years back when some young doctors showed special interest in cosmetic surgery.

But soon the situation turned out of hands of the PGIMER doctors when a large number people got themselves registered for the hair transplant treatment. “In just a couple of months, the waiting list increased to one year. We have put a cap that not more than 20% cosmetic surgeries will be performed at the institute,” said Dr Sharma

Cheaper affair

At the PGIMER, the cost of cosmetic surgeries is 10 to 50 times less as compared to the private sector.

For example, for hair transplant in private sector the cosmetic surgeons charge Rs 50 for each hair transplantation. The PGIMER charges Rs 100 for one sitting in which at least 1,000 hair are transplanted.
