Badal to head council on higher education mission

The Punjab government has constituted the Punjab Higher Education Council under the chairmanship of chief minister Parkash Singh Badal for the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), the union government's mission for higher education.

The Punjab government has constituted the Punjab Higher Education Council under the chairmanship of chief minister Parkash Singh Badal for the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), the union government's mission for higher education.

Education minister Sikander Singh Maluka would be the panel's vice-chairman and Dr Roshan Sunkaria, principal secretary, higher education, the chief executive officer, a spokesman said here.

The seven nominated members on the panel are former PGI director Dr KK Talwar, agri-economist Dr GS Kalkat, academician Chander Mohan, industrialists Paul Oswal and Rajinder Gupta, social activist Neena Tiwana, and scholar Dr Dharminder Singh Ubhan from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee.

Ex-officio members of the council include Panjab University vice-chancellor Arun Kumar Grover, Punjabi University V-C Dr Jaspal Singh, Guru Nanak Dev University V-C Dr Ajaib Singh, Baba Farid Medical University of Health Sciences V-C Dr SS Gill, Punjab Technical University V-C Rajnish Arora and RUSA state project director Anjali Bhawra.
