Member of Parliament and former railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal flagged off the weekly Amritsar -Lalkuan train which goes via Chandigarh, here on Wednesday.
The train will depart from Chandigarh railway station every Wednesday at 10.30 am and reach Lalkuan in Uttarakhand at 8.50 pm. The train will start originate from Amritsar every Wednesday at 5.55 am.
It will leave Lalkuan every Wednesday at 11.15 pm and reach Chandigarh at 9 am the next day, and reach Amritsar at 2.45 pm.
Bansal, while addressing those present at the flag-off ceremony, said it was a moment of pride for the city that a new train had been started, which would cater to not only the needs of people from Uttarakhand, but also tourists from Punjab and region since Lalkuan is close to popular hill station Nainital.
The MP said he would take up the demand to name this train as 'Terai Express' with the railway minister. He said the frequency of the existing trains would be increased making Chandigarh becoming an important station connecting several places across the country.
