The Punjab government informed the Punjab and Haryana high court on Friday that its former chief minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal had vacated her illegally occupied government house no 46 in Sector 2, Chandigarh.
The Chandigarh administration also informed the court that it had issued eviction notices/warrants to around 50 government employees, who were occupying houses illegally or had overstayed their possession.
Bhattal had illegally occupied government accommodation from March 22, 2012 onwards. The court was also informed that Bhattal had been allotted another government house in Chandigarh as per her entitlement looking at the security threat.
On this, the court dismissed the application seeking Bhattal's eviction as the issue had been addressed.
Appearing for Chandigarh administration, senior standing counsel Sanjay Kaushal submitted an affidavit filed by Rahul Gupta, secretary of house allotment committee, Chandigarh, before the special division bench comprising justice Jasbir Singh and justice Rakesh Kumar Jain.
The reply stated that the sub-divisional magistrates of Chandigarh East, South and Centre (exercising powers of estate offcers under public premises Act), has issued around 50 eviction notices/warrants.
It further informed that around 15 government houses had been vacated after issuing vacation notices, in around five cases court appeals were pending and eviction orders had been dropped in around 30 cases.
