The hearing in the Jagdish Bhola drug racket case was adjourned to Thursday as one of the judges of the special division bench headed by justice Surya Kant was not available on Wednesday.
The high court bench was to peruse the record pertaining to the transfer of assistant legal adviser Suresh Batra associated with money-laundering investigations by the enforcement directorate, who was transferred to Bengaluru on July 20. The record was summoned following an application that was filed by one of the lawyers in the case seeking stay on the transfer of the ED official.
The Punjab government has to file a response to the application filed by former Punjab director general of police, prisons, Shashi Kant, who on the last date of hearing had told the court that drug business in Punjab was worth Rs 1 lakh crore per year and had also demanded that Haryana be brought under the ambit of the petition as it was also coming up on the drug map.
The court is yet to take a call on the transfer of ED assistant director Niranjan Singh, whose transfer was stayed by the high court in January. An application filed by Punjab Congress chief Pratap Singh Bajwa, wherein he has sought a CBI investigation into the case, will also be taken up on Thursday.
