Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah will visit Punjab on May 2 and 3. He will travel to Amritsar and Jalandhar and meet party members.
Stating this on Thursday, BJP secretary Tarun Chugh said Shah was scheduled to address about 15,000 active party members in the state.
“He (Shah) will be in the state to oversee the membership drive, which has received a tremendous response,” claimed state unit president Kamal Sharma.
The BJP has fixed a target of 21 lakh members in Punjab and claims to have already crossed the 19-lakh mark. The state unit would re-launch its drive from April 15, in which various wings would make efforts to achieve the target.
Sharma said the party would organise programmes at the block level on the occasion of the birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar on April 14. Sharma held meetings with office-bearers of various party wings here on Thursday.
Sharma stated that with the aim of achieving the membership target, the state BJP had made a schedule. From April 15-16, the party would conduct the drive at the booth level; from April 16-18, youth wing workers would carry a special drive at bus stands and railway stations across the state. On the same days, mahila morcha members would carry out the membership campaign outside religious places.
From April 18-20, the party’s industrial cell would induct members in focal points and other industrial areas; from April 19-20, the Himachal wing and the business community wing would organise special camps in their respective areas; from April 18-20, the intellectual wing and the real-estate wing would conduct the drive. From April 21-24, the party’s kisan morcha and arhtiya wing would carry out a special drive in vegetable and grain markets.

During the meeting, state organisation secretary Ajay Jamwal, membership drive head Vinod Sharma, national secretary Tarun Chugh, state general secretaries Rakesh Rathore and Jagtar Singh Saini, and other state office-bearers were also present.
