Former MP and BJP leader Satya Pal Jain said: “It is quite surprising that the Central Bureau of Investigation has not named Pawan Kumar Bansal in the charge sheet as he was the main accused in the case.”

“The money was received by his own nephew on his behalf for getting the work done. In fact, Bansal should be the main accused in the charge sheet,” he said.

Chandigarh BJP chief Sanjay Tandon said: “The decision has proved that the CBI is a parrot in the hands of the UPA government, which is shamelessly using its authority to give clean chits to its own leaders.”

“We are calling an emergency meeting on Wednesday to take further action,” he added.
Former union minister, Harmohan Dhawan said: “The latest development has proved that it is the Congress Bureau of investigation.” He said it was expected that the UPA government will protect its ministers.

On May 4, Bansal's nephew Vijay Singla was arrested in Chandigarh for allegedly accepting Rs 90 lakh in exchange of organising a top slot for Mahesh Kumar in the railway board. The deal was set for 10 crore, the CBI said adding that the money that Singla was caught with in Chandigarh was the first installment.
