Book worth Rs 1 lakh on display at PU book fair

A two-part volume on human anatomy written 500 years ago has become the centre of attraction at PU's book fair. Priced Rs 1 lakh, the book, originally written in Latin entitled 'De Humani Corpus Fabrica' by Anreas Vesalius, is the most expensive book on display at the exhibition.

Priced Rs 1 lakh, the book, originally written in Latin entitled 'De Humani Corpus Fabrica' by Anreas Vesalius, is the most expensive book on display at the exhibition. It took two Swiss writers - Daniel H Garrison and Malcolm H Hast - nearly 20 years to translate the book into English. The book finally hit the markets in 2013.

Saurabh Sharma, a representative of Karger India - the book's publishers - said the institutes such as All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi and Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, have already purchased a copy of the book.

"We have just one copy here for display. The book must be ordered online and a copy will be delivered at home," said Sharma.

PU librarian Raj Kumar said varsity also plans to keep a copy of the book at its library.

Meanwhile, faculty and students from across the city flocked to the exhibition on the second day.
