In his complaint to the police filed on July 17 Sachin said he had a verbal spat with the two students after which the latter along with some of their friends beat him up with batons and other objects outside the school. The police recorded his statement on July 18 but registered a case only on Monday.

Meanwhile, an inquiry conducted by the school has revealed Sachin had never lodged any complaint on being bullied or harassed to school or education department officials. The report, which was submitted to the district education office on Thursday, also ruled out ragging since the boy, who has been studying at the school since class 1, had never approached the authorities with such a complaint.
