BSF personnel came across a 300-feet tunnel dug inside the Indian territory from across the border at Chachwal border outpost along the Indo-Pak international border in Samba district, 70 km from Jammu city, on Saturday afternoon.
Samba SSP Israr Khan said that BSF personnel guarding the BoP had come across caved-in earth nearby. On close observation, it was found that the soil had caved in at three places in a straight line, leading to suspicion.
He said that they also found a plastic pipe, believed to have been or was to be used for oxygen supply to intruders inside the tunnel.
Khan said BSF personnel pressed in a JCB machine to dig the area on Saturday morning for about 25 feet and found a 3x3 feet tunnel. The SSP said that BSF men were still trying to find out the opening of the tunnel.
BSF officials refused to talk to media on the issue.
The tunnel was dug beneath the border fence, which is about 200 metres inside the Indian territory. Across the Chachwal BoPs falls Lambrayl post in Shakargarh tehsil of Pakistan.
Khan said it could not be said with certainty if the tunnel had been used in the past to infiltrate terrorists, till the opening was found.

{{/usCountry}}According to police sources, a local working in the fields had observed the cave-in in the field and reported the matter to BSF on finding a plastic pipe on Friday evening.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in the area.
