A car-borne man and two women targeted a 74-year-old woman in Kitchlu Nagar and robbed her of her gold bangle on Wednesday.
The victim, Veeran Malhotra, wife of retired prosecution and litigation joint director DK Malhotra, was standing outside her residence on Hambran Road near Ramsharnam Ashram in the morning when a white Swift car stopped in front of her.
Her son, Rajat Malhotra, an advocate, said, “There were two women sitting behind and a man in the driver seat. One of the women called my mother and said that a person named ‘Ramesh’ had met with an accident and was waiting for her (Veeran). However, when my mother said she did not know any person with the name Ramesh, the women forcibly made her sit in the car and drove away towards Hambran.”
The victim said in her statement that one of the women sat on her and the other removed a gold bangle from her arm while trying to cover her face. “Later, they threw me out of the car around 200m away from the Kitchlu Nagar police post, leaving me injured in the knees,” she said.
Rajat said he had left for Chandigarh for work in the morning at around 7am and got a call from his wife about the incident at 10.30am, following which he rushed back home and informed the police.

{{/usCountry}}Kitchlu Nagar police post in-charge assistant sub inspector (ASI) Sukhdeep Singh said a case under Sections 420 (cheating) and 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) registered against the three unidentified persons at the PAU police station. “As the victim’s house is being renovated, the CCTV cameras there were not operational. However, we are investigating the matter and will check the footage of the cameras installed nearby,” he said.
