The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested a former Punjab deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Harminder Singh Deol, from his friend's house in Sector 38-west for a fraud of Rs 2.33 crore with the income tax department.

The prime accused in the fraud case registered last year is regional account officer (RAO) Subhash Solanki of the I-T department, while 42-year-old Deol, a Hoshiarpur native who was reportedly dismissed from the Punjab Police in a case around a decade ago, is one of the co-accused. Deol currently works as a realty consultant.
CBI sleuths raided his friend Updeep's house and arrested him, and also seized a red beacon SUV, bearing a Punjab registration number, from outside the house. The car, owned by Deol, also had a sticker of Indian Revenue Service on the windshield. Sources said Deol even tried to escape. He would now be produced in the special CBI court in Patiala on Saturday.
