In an endeavour to promote one of India’s most ancient and sacred languages, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) directed all its affiliated schools to observe ‘Sanskrit Week’, which is between August 7 and 13.
In its circular, the board says, “Sanskrit and Indian culture are intertwined as most of the indigenous knowledge is available in this language.
The objective of observing Sanskrit Week is to provide an opportunity to schools, teachers and students to come out, share their knowledge of Sanskrit and learn it from each other.”
It further stated that the celebration of this week would provide a medium for popularising the language and raising awareness about the close relationship between Sanskrit and other languages and the cultural heritage of India.
“It will also encourage linguistic creativity among students and to provide an opportunity to benefit from the systematic structure of Sanskrit language that may, in turn, give insight into learning other languages.”
The circular said that schools can begin their activities in July itself. It also announced a national-level competition, entries for which can be sent by July 20. Individual students may participate in the competition by recording a short speech of two minutes on a topic of interest in Sanskrit.

{{/usCountry}}At the start of the clip, student must mention his name, class and the name of the school with address and contact details. After ensuring the proper audio-visual quality, students may share their clip on ‘WhatsApp’ on the number 07042745234.

Besides this, schools have been advised to organise a ‘Yuva Sansad’, which is aimed at strengthening the oratory acumen of students.
