A day after some residents protested against cooking of beef at a wedding party in Nayagaon, the police arrested four accused, including a juvenile.
Besides the juvenile, the accused have been identified as Khustar Hussain, Farkhana and Shehzadi.
Residents had accused them of slaughtering a calf on Sunday and then cooking it for a wedding party on Monday night. Colony dwellers had also handed over legs of the slaughtered calf to the police.
A case under Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act and Sections 295A (hurting religious sentiments), 429 (mischief by killing or maiming animal) and 120 (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered.
Meanwhile, some Hindu radicals, including those from the BJP, held a protest in the area on Tuesday.
In an attempt to avoid any disorder, the police camped in the area.
Superintendent of police (city) Ashish Kapoor said, “We made all arrangements to ensure that no uproar sparked. We have arrested the suspects, and the situation is under control.”
