Chandigarh will be developed as a solar city in near future, Punjab governor and UT administrator Shivraj Patil said at the 66th Independence Day celebrations organised at the Parade Ground in Sector 17 on Wednesday.

Chandigarh will be developed as a solar city in near future, Punjab governor and UT administrator Shivraj Patil said at the 66th Independence Day celebrations organised at the Parade Ground in Sector 17 on Wednesday.

Addressing the gathering, Patil said there was a need to tap the solar energy in the city beautiful -- the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana -- and that the government and private builders would be encouraged to do so.

A cultural programme with tableaux displaying various aspects of the city and a parade were organised to mark the day.
