Additional district and sessions judge, Anshu Shukla, on Wednesday framed charges against against Rajat Beniwal (21), a PU student, Kamal Singh (29), a dhaba owner; Dilpreet Singh (22) also a student, for the murder of Manisha Singh Thakur (20), daughter of Sector-22 Nukkar Dhaba owner, Joginder Singh.
Manisha, pursuing an architecture course at an institute in Sector 34, had died of drug overdose, allegedly consumed in the company of the three accused. Her body was recovered from a drain on the Rajpura Road near Shambhu barrier in Haryana on October 21 last year.
The chargesheet has been filed under the sections of criminal conspiracy, causing disappearance of evidence, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and kidnapping.
The chargesheet states that the accused Rajat, Kamal and Dilpreet had allegedly consumed heroin along with Manisha and had panicked when Manisha died. The trio decided to put the body in the car, drove it to an isolated place near the Shambhu border, and dumped the body in a drain.
The case would now come up for hearing on February 24. The police are still awaiting a report from the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory (CFSL), which is not part of the chargesheet as yet.
Manisha failed to return home one October day and the police registered a kidnapping case. During investigation, the police narrowed on to her friend Rajat who told the police that he, Manisha, another friend Kamal, and Dilpreet, with whom Manisha was in a relationship, were consuming heroin inside his car in Mohali when Manisha died, apparently due to drug overdose.
Manisha's body was found from the place identified by Rajat. Kamal was arrested from his residence in Sector 56 and Dilpreet from phase 10 in Mohali. Rajat, a resident of Sector 51, is a student of the evening college at Panjab University, Kamal runs a dhaba in Sector 37-D and Dilpreet is studying interior designing.
