After delay of nearly two years, the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) is likely to hand over the possession of 160 two-bedroom flats in Sector 51A to its successful allottees by next month.
The board launched the two-bed room housing scheme in 2010 with the assurance of possession in June 2012.
The flats were priced at Rs 50 lakh for ground floor and Rs 47 lakh for upper floors. Though it has been termed as the fastest scheme implemented by the board, it was marred by delays. Sources said the board failed to construct flats on time which led to the delay in final allotment of flats.
This is not for the first time that the delay has taken place. The CHB, which is the city administration’s premier agency dealing with the housing projects, had invited criticism several times in the past as well for not being able to allot houses on time. For instance, the allottes are waiting for the possession of more than 2,100 flats in Sector 63.
CHB officials said construction was delayed due to the multiple litigations in the housing scheme in Sector 63. There was also a dispute CHB and PUDA due to laying down the sewerage pipes and other civic issues. “Construction is however on full swing now, said an official.

{{/usCountry}}When contacted, CHB chairman Bhupinder Singh Bhalla said furnishing work on flats in Sector 51 was going on in full swing. “The board will be able to hand over the possession of flats to successful allottes by next month,” he said.
Meanwhile, flats have rich conditions such as marble flooring, modular kitchens, green area, solar water heating system and other energy-saving features.
