The party leaders, right from the state leadership to the local ones, are reportedly in touch with the rebels and are hoping that everything will be right well before the polls.

Divided into many factions, the Congress has started a damage-control exercise as it wants unity at any cost to ensure a victory for Bajwa in Gurdaspur constituency wherein the prinicipal opposition party BJP is yet to name its candidate.

BJP is reportedly caught into the dilemma of making the choice between two of the topmost contenders for its ticket-Vinod Khanna and Swaran Salaria.

Meanwhile , district Congress president Anil Vij claims that they will soon solve the problem of rebels and everything would be alright as there is a positive indication from the rebels in the constituency most of whom may re-join the party in the coming few days.

The Congress, he said, is holding meetings to assign duties related to elections and the party workers are fully enthused. “Bajwa would certainly emerge victorious for a second consecutive term,” he added.

Former Congress MLA Ashok Sharma, who had left party after he was denied ticket in the last assembly elections and had contested unsuccessfully as an Independent candidate, said: “Iif the party gives me the due honour, I may work for it once again.”
