Singh's wife and Congress member Prem Lata also joined the saffron party as did 16 other Congress leaders, including sitting Pundri MLA Sultan Singh.

Addressing a well attended rally, the veteran Congress leader said that the party did not reward him with the top post despite his serving the party for more than four decades. "Seeing my plight, even media dubbed me as 'tragedy king'," he said.

"We will not victimise you as tragedy or a comedy king," Shah said, assuring Singh that the BJP would treat him well.

"PM Narendra Modi's vision of development made me change my mind to join BJP," said Singh, who told Shah that 17,000 designated members of Congress had joined the saffron party on Saturday.

Pointing to surveys which gave the BJP the edge in Haryana assembly polls, Shah said that 'the real survey was that the party would come up with 2/3 majority".

He said that UP's performance was just a trailer and that now the full film would be displayed in Haryana.
