Almost a month after the sensational compact disc (CD) containing a purported conversation of health minister Kaul Singh Thakur created flutter in the state, the crime investigation department (CID) of Himachal Police has got some vitals clue about the person who had posted the controversial CD.

Terming the CD leak as a political ploy to malign his image, Kaul Singh had demanded a thorough probe into the matter. Thakur had also outrightly blamed chief minister Virbhadra Singh's close confidant Indian Police Service Officer AP Singh, who is currently resident commissioner, Delhi, for the leak. The charge was rubbished by the chief minister who ordered a probe.

The probe was assigned to inspector general of police (CID ) Rakesh Aggarwal, who went to Delhi to gather more details in the case. The initial internal probe conducted by CID sleuths has revealed that the CD was sent to as many as 90 people, including select mediapersons, legislators and bureaucrats.

After sifting through postal records, they also found that the CD was sent through speed post by a man named Suraj Singh, resident of 23/4, Uttam Nagar, New Delhi. However, further investigation revealed that the sender's postal address was fake. The compact disc was posted from Delhi's Gol market post office . Police had sought footage of the surveillance cameras installed at the post office to identify the person.

"The footage was of little help," IGP Aggarwal told Hindustan Times over phone. "We have got some vital clues. Police has also sifted through the records obtained from the Gol Market post office," said Aggarwal, adding that he could not reveal more details at this point of time.

The work was allocated by the irrigation and public health department . Kaul Singh held the IPH portfolio during the previous Congress regime.

Virbhadra has also on record said the voice in CD was of that of Kaul Singh.
