Jatinder Singh, in a complaint to the police, alleged that he had gone to deposit money in the ICICI bank where he met an unidentified man who asked him to fill a form and get his identity card photocopied meanwhile. A resident of Phase 8, Jatinder is the son of assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Paramjeet Singh.

"I thought a man offering to help me out with paperwork was an employee of the bank and thus I handed him the bag containing the money and went out to get the photocopies of the identity proof. When I returned, I could not find the man nor the bag," Jatinder told the police.

"On Jatinder's complaint, we have registered a case of cheating at Mataur police station against an unknown person," informed RS Sohal, deputy superintendent of police (city).

He added, "Jatinder was to go to Canada and thus he had come to deposit the money in the bank. We are scanning footage of the cameras installed in the bank and will soon be able to arrest the con man."
